Why devotees come here
The Adiyogi Shiva bust is a steel statue of Shiva as the first yogi, 112 ft tall, at the Isha Yoga Center in the Velliangiri Foothills near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The Guinness Book of World Records declared it the world's largest bust. Purnima processions are held in the Dhyanalinga Parikrama.
Adiyogi refers to Shiva as the first yogi, the originator of yoga. The bust is said to symbolise the 112 methods of self-transformation that he offered. Its height of 112 ft also stands for the 112 ways to attain moksha, or liberation, and the 112 chakras in the human system. A linga named Yogeshwara Linga was consecrated and placed in front of the statue.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the statue on 24 February 2017, on Maha Shivaratri. It is a steel bust, 112 ft high and 147 ft long, designed by Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation. The steel weighs around 500 tonnes. A check on 11 March 2017 measured the height at 112.4 feet.
In 2019 President Ram Nath Kovind opened a light and sound show projected onto the statue. It was also inaugurated on Maha Shivaratri. A press release says the bust attracts thousands of people every day.
