Why devotees come here
Brahma Temple stands in Carambolim village in North Goa district, also called Karmali. It is one of the few temples in India dedicated to Brahma, the Creator within the Trimurti. A distinctive black stone idol inside is believed to date back centuries.
Brahma is a Hindu deity, honoured as the Creator within the Trimurti. The Trimurti is the trinity of supreme divinity that also includes Vishnu and Shiva.
Few temples dedicated to him exist in India. The most famous is the Brahma Temple at Pushkar in Rajasthan. One of the rare temples in India dedicated to Brahma stands in Carambolim, in North Goa district. The Goa government's NRI portal lists it under Glorious Temples.
The shrine is dated to the 5th century AD, the same date the NRI portal gives. The village, also called Karmali, is small and remote. It sits in calm village landscapes. The Goa Department of Tourism describes the shrine as one with exceptional religious significance, linked to the state's unique spiritual traditions and ancient worship practices. Pilgrims, historians and devotees visit it. The temple is 7 km from Valpoi, in the same village. Inside, a distinctive black stone idol is believed to date back centuries.
