Why devotees come here
Dadhichi Kund is a sacred pond in the grounds of the Dadhichi Ashram at Misrikh, in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh. The ashram is the hermitage of Sage Dadhichi, and devotees believe the water of all the world's pilgrimages mixes in the kund.
Dadhichi Kund is a pond in the grounds of the Dadhichi Ashram. The Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Bhagavatam all mention it, and it forms part of the Naimisharanya Teertha region. Devotees believe the water of all the world's pilgrimages mixes in this kund, so a bath here is said to bring the merit of every pilgrimage.
The legend behind the place tells how Vritrasur could be killed only with a vajra made from the bones of Sage Dadhichi. In the Puranas, Dadhichi gives up his life so that his bones can be used to make that weapon. Hindu devotees still come to the kund to take a holy bath.
The ashram is located in the town of Misrikh, a city and municipal board in Sitapur district. The kund is built on about 2 acres of land. On its right-hand side stands a temple of Maharishi Dadhichi, and many forms of the sage are displayed inside it. The district government describes the kund as having special significance in Hinduism.
