Why devotees come here
Eachanari Vinayagar Temple is a Ganesha temple in Eachanari, a suburb of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. It stands about 12 km from the city on NH 209. Legend says its idol came to rest here after a cart axle broke on the way from Madurai.
The temple is dedicated to Vinayagar, a name of Ganesha. Eachanari is a suburb of Coimbatore city and lies within the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation jurisdiction. Legend has it that while the idol was being carted from Madurai for installation, the cart axle broke. The idol was seated at Eachanari, and the temple was later built where it settled. It is among 11 temples in the Coimbatore area.
When the temple was built in 1500 AD, its Ganesh deity, 6 feet tall and 3 feet in diameter, was placed inside. The temple is constructed in the Dravidian architectural style.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated here with much pomp and pageantry. Devotees can also take part in the Homam Yajna, a traditional fire ritual dedicated to Ganesha, held in the early hours of the morning.
