Why devotees come here
Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple stands in the Kudroli area of Mangalore, Karnataka. It is dedicated to Gokarnanatha, a form of Shiva, and its special mark is that Narayana Guru consecrated it in 1912.
The temple is dedicated to Gokarnanatha, a form of Shiva. By its own account, it is the only temple in Karnataka that Brahmashree Narayana Guru sanctified and consecrated. The Billava community now accepts the temple as Aadi.
The temple was built in 1912 by Adhyaksha Hoige Bazar Koragappa. Narayana Guru himself consecrated it in February 1912, installing a Shiva linga that he had brought. The original structure was in Kerala style. A renovation in 1991 rebuilt it in Chola style, and the architect Sthapadi K. Dakshinamoorthy designed the present temple.
The gopuram, a tower-like structure, is 60 feet tall and decorated with murals of various gods and goddesses. B.R. Karkera started the Dasara celebrations here, which are now popularly called Mangalore Dasara.
