Why devotees come here
Sri Lakshmi Tirupatamma Ammavaru, believed to be an incarnation of Shakti, is worshipped at this temple in Penuganchiprolu, NTR district. It is the most prominent of the many ancient temples in the village, and its Jathara festival was listed for 11 to 15 February 2025.
Sri Lakshmi Tirupatamma Ammavaru is believed to be an incarnation of Shakti, a powerful and compassionate mother who fulfils the prayers of her devotees. It is believed that she was a very virtuous woman, gifted in spirit, who lived centuries ago in Penuganchiprolu. Legend says she attained Jeeva Samadhi, a state of living burial, while meditating.
Legend adds that devotees began to experience blessings at her Samadhi site, and that led to her temple being founded in the village. The village is believed to house over 100 ancient temples, and this one is the most prominent.
The temple's origins are dated to the seventeenth century, according to a government tourism listing. Its festival, the Tirupati Ammavari Jathara, sees the idol decked in jewellery and silk sarees and placed on a decorated chariot.
