Why devotees come here
Loganatha Perumal Temple is a Vishnu temple in Nagapattinam district, one of the 108 Divya Desams. Vishnu is worshipped here as Loganatha Perumal, with Lakshmi as Loganayagi. The temple sits 2 km from Sikkal on the Tiruvarur-Nagapattinam highway.
Vishnu is worshipped here as Loganatha Perumal, and the temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the Vishnu temples mentioned in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham. It is also one of the Panchakanna (Krishnaranya) Kshetrams, five temples linked to Krishna. As per Hindu legend, sage Gautama is believed to have worshipped the deity here. Another legend says sage Vasishtha was chasing a child, who came running to this place. The deity Loganatha is also believed to have appeared to Brahma and several sages.
The temple is believed to have been built by the Medieval Cholas in the late 9th century CE. Later contributions came from Vijayanagara kings and Madurai Nayaks. It is built in the Dravidian style, with a five-tier rajagopuram, the gateway tower, and a vast temple complex.
The sanctum is approached through two pillared halls, Mukha Mandapa and Ardha mandapa. The temple tank lies right outside the temple. Six daily rituals and four yearly festivals are held at the temple.
