Maa Mangala Mandir is a Hindu Shakta pitha in Kakatpur, on the eastern coast of Odisha. Legend says Devi Mangala hid herself under the deep water of the Prachi river. In the story, she came to a boatman in a dream and asked him to lift her out of the water and place her in nearby Mangalapur village.
The present temple was built in 1548 AD by the local zamindar Panchanan Mitra Roychudamoni. Its architecture is a typical example of the Utkaliya Peedha Vimana style. The temple stands on the eastern bank of the Prachi river, which was called Saraswati in earlier times.
Kakatpur is a semi-urban town in Puri district, Odisha. The temple also has a place in the Jagannath tradition: priests of the Jagannath Temple in Puri pray to Mangala here for divine guidance, and the temple is regarded as highly relevant to the Nabakalebara festival.
