Why devotees come here
Manu Temple stands in Old Manali, a walk from Manali town in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. It is devoted to Rishi Manu, the sage who codified Hindu law in the Manusmriti. The Himachal Tourism site calls a temple of Manu rare in the country.
Legend says that after the great deluge had swept the world at the end of an age, Manu, the progenitor of humanity, came to rest with his ark on a hillside here. He made his abode at this spot, and from him human life was said to be recreated. Hindu tradition regards him as the creator of mankind. The Kullu district history page calls the place Manu-alaya, the home of Manu, and Manali is said to take its name from it.
The temple is a fine monument of stone and wood, and its roof is covered with slate tiles. It is an ancient shrine to Maharishi Manu, the lawgiver behind the Manusmriti. Because the temple stands in Old Manali, you can reach it on foot from Manali town. The Himachal Tourism site names Manu Temple among the top spiritual places to visit in Manali.
