Military Mahadeva Temple is set in the middle of a well-kept garden and is one of the oldest temples in Belagavi. Army personnel have worshipped here for a long time, which is why it carries the name Military Mahadeva. The foundation stone was laid on January 18, 1954.
The temple was officially inaugurated on January 24, 1955, by Lieutenant General S.M. Shrinagesh, then Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Command. It has been renovated several times over the years. When a new dome was built, it followed the original style of the temple.
The central shrine holds a black Shiva lingam, guarded by seven-hooded serpents. The carvings on the temple are similar to those found in prominent temples across South India. Two Nandi idols stand in front of the lingam.
