Why devotees come here
Nettikanti Anjaneya Temple is dedicated to Anjaneya, another name for Hanuman. It stands about 5 km from Guntakal town in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. Its name comes from the deity's gaze: the right eye is believed to look straight at each devotee.
The name Nettikanti refers to the deity's divine stare. The deity is also known as Nettikanti Veera Anjaneya Swamy. The right eye of the Anjaneya is believed to gaze straight at the devotee. Devotees believe that this gaze removes fear and negative energies, and gives worshippers confidence and strength.
Devotees also hold marriages and tonsure ceremonies at the temple, besides prayers to the deity. Muslims from the surrounding areas also visit and make offerings to the deity. The Ananthapuramu district government website lists the temple under its full name, Kasapuram Nettikanti Anjineya Swamy Temple.
The temple lies in Anantapur district, one of the eight districts of the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. Guntakal, also known as Guntakallu, is the town the temple is near. A huge procession is taken out once a year in honour of the deity.
