Why devotees come here
Pahari Mandir is a Shiva temple on a hilltop in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. It is the first temple in the country where the tricolour is hoisted. The temple stands 2,140 feet above sea level and is also known as Pahari Temple.
Pahari Mandir is a hill temple of Shiva, worshipped in linga form. After independence, the first tricolour was hoisted here by K. C. Das, a freedom fighter from Ranchi. The tricolour is still raised here every Independence Day and Republic Day. Inside the hill temple, a stone carries a message of freedom, written at midnight on 14 and 15 August 1947.
The temple's old name was Tiriburu. In British times it changed to Hanging Gallows, because British rulers hanged freedom fighters here. The temple stands 2,140 feet above sea level and 350 feet above the ground, in the city of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. The temple is also called the Pahari Baba temple.
Large crowds of Shiva devotees come here during Shivaratri and Sawan. Visitors can also see the tricolour hoisted on the hill on Independence Day and Republic Day each year.
