Why devotees come here
The Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple stands in Saidapet, Chennai, in Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Venkateswara, an incarnation of Vishnu. Saidapet is about 12.20 km from kilometre zero of Chennai city.
The temple is dedicated to Venkateswara, an incarnation of Vishnu. The main image is Prasanna Venkata Narasimha Perumal, standing under the Ananda Nilaya Vimanam with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi at his side. A regional legend says the deity is incarnated with his consorts and faces east in the sanctum.
A small shrine for Rama, called Raghunatha, stands close by. It is said to hold the first image worshipped here, and the place was originally called Raghunatha Puram.
Records differ on the age of the temple. One account dates its construction to the 12th century, with some elements that inscriptions suggest may be more than 1,000 years old. Another puts it at five to six hundred years. The Balija Chetty community is credited with building it. A wooden temple chariot, 36 feet tall, stands near the gopuram and is used during the annual festival.
