Why devotees come here

Prasanthi Nilayam is the main ashram and Samadhi Mandir of Sathya Sai Baba, in the town of Puttaparthi. Sathya Sai Baba founded it near his birthplace, and he gave daily darshan to his devotees here. The ashram is open to everyone, of any faith.

Sathya Sai Baba established Prasanthi Nilayam as his principal ashram near his birthplace, Puttaparthi. It is the main ashram and Samadhi Mandir of Sathya Sai Baba. He gave daily darshan to his devotees in the ashram, and the Sai Kulwant Hall, which seats about 20,000, is where that daily darshan took place.

A small temple was built in 1944 for his growing number of followers. Construction of the main ashram began soon after, and it was inaugurated on 23 November 1950. Sathya Sai Baba entered Mahasamadhi on 24 April 2011, aged 84.

The mandir is painted blue, yellow and pink. The colors symbolize the harmony of spirit, intellect and heart. A 50-foot Sarva Dharma Stupa, built in November 1975, celebrates the unity of all religions.
