Why devotees come here
Sarbamangala Mandir stands in Burdwan, West Bengal, and is described as the first navaratna temple in undivided Bengal. It is the home of Mata Sarbamangala, presiding deity of the Bardhaman Raj.
Mata Sarbamangala is the presiding deity of the Bardhaman Raj. Legend says her idol was found on the sand-bed of the Damodar River. The idol is said to be around 1000 years old, older than the 1702 temple building.
Maharaja Kirtichand built the temple in 1702 on D.N. Sarkar Road in Burdwan. It is a navaratna temple, and the district page calls it the first of its kind in undivided Bengal. Inside is a nata mandir with a terracotta panel of Durga.
The temple is in Bardhaman, the headquarters of Purba Bardhaman district. The town became a district capital during British rule and is the headquarters today. The main Howrah-Delhi rail track passes through the town. The nearest railway station is Burdwan Junction.
