Why devotees come here
Savitri Mata Temple stands on Ratnagiri hill above Pushkar in Rajasthan, on a hillock right behind the Brahma temple. It is dedicated to Savitri, Brahma's first wife. The listed opening hours are 6 AM to 6 PM.
Legend says Savitri, Brahma's first wife, cursed him so that he would be worshipped only in Pushkar. The only Brahma temple in Pushkar is the outcome of that curse. For this reason the aarti is performed first at Savitri Temple and then at the Brahma Temple.
The shrine sits on a hillock right behind the Brahma temple, on Ratnagiri hill above the town. The temple was reconstructed in the early 20th century by the Bangar family. It holds an idol of Savitri said to date back to the 7th century AD.
Pushkar lies northwest of Ajmer, at a height of 510 metres, and hillocks surround it on three sides. While you climb toward the temple, you get a panoramic view of the lake, the surrounding temples and the sand dunes.
