Why devotees come here
Shambhu Nath temple stands at Nahri village in Sonipat district, Haryana. It is dedicated to Shiv Dada Shambhu. Devotees describe it as a centre for spiritual salvation where saints came to meditate.
Shiv Dada Shambhu's temple at Nahri is a tapasya sthal, a place of meditation. Devotees describe it as a centre for spiritual salvation. Legend says Baba Puranmal, son of King Salewan of Shalkot, came to Nahri thousands of years ago to meditate and seek spiritual peace.
Legend says the area was a heavy forest in that time. Very old trees of gular, peepal, bargad and janti still stand here. Later saints, Baba Kude Nath, Baba Mast Nath, Ranpat Nath and Maan Data Nath, also came to Nahri for tapasya.
The temple was set up here in the forest to keep that ancient setting. Devotees built a grand temple in place of an earlier small temple. A fair is held twice a year at the temple, on Phagun Navami in March and Asadh Saptami in July.
