A local account says Maharaja Ugrasen installed Shani Dev near the Gangaganga river after a dream, when the swayambhu statue was removed from the river. Another account says Diwan Ugrasen of the Khilchipur princely state first installed the statue on the banks of the Gadganga in Khilchipur.
In 1920, Maharaja Durjan Lal Singh of Khilchipur installed Shani Dev in the seated form that stands at the present site. The district page says Hariyali Amavas is celebrated as the temple's foundation day. The shrine stands in the complex at Naharda.
