Why devotees come here
Trivikrama Perumal Temple, also called Ulagalantha Perumal Temple, is a Vishnu temple in Thirukovilur town, Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam temples, and legend says Vishnu appeared here to the first three Alvars.
Legend says Vishnu appeared here to the first three Alvars, the Vaishnava poet saints. The three of them sang the first three Thiruvandadhis here, and those hymns are part of the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, the Sri Vaishnava canon. The temple is one of the 108 Divyadesam shrines dedicated to Vishnu. Vishnu is worshipped here as Ulagalantha Perumal.
The temple was built in the Dravidian style by Chola rulers in the sixth and ninth centuries AD. It has a very large raja gopuram, the third longest gopuram in Tamil Nadu. The temple also has a shrine for Vamana. Thirukovilur is famous for three places: this temple, the Veerateeswarar Temple and the Kabilar Kundru. Every year the temple celebrates Maasi Magam in February and March in a grand manner.
