Why devotees come here
Uma Devi Temple stands in the Himalayan foothills at Uttersoo town in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. Uma Devi is worshipped here in the form of water. Legend says five springs met on this site to form the sacred symbol Omkar.
Uma Devi has manifested here as the very essence of life, which is water. The name Uma Nagri translates to The Abode of Uma. The temple's association with Shiva and Devi Parvati adds to its significance.
Legend says the saint Swami Shivananda dreamt of a celestial location, and Uma Devi herself had chosen that place. At the site, five springs converged to form the sacred symbol Omkar. The meeting of the waters is believed to represent the essence of all creation.
That confluence became the foundation of the Uma Devi temple. The place where the five springs met is therefore central to the temple's story. The temple stands in the Himalayan foothills at Uttersoo town, in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. The governor, impressed, granted land for the temple's upkeep, and the name Brari Angan is etched forever in its history.
