Agroha is regarded as the historical place where the Agrawal community originated in antiquity. The town is one of the eight tehsils of Hisar district. The main temple is dedicated to Devi Mahalakshmi and is divided into three wings.
Construction of the temple started in 1976 and was completed in 1984. The decision to build the modern temple was made at a convention of All India Aggarwal Representatives in 1976. The trust was set up under Shri Krishna Modi and Rameshwar Das Gupta. The Agroha Vikas Trust, founded in 1976, is the temple board that looks after the building and its upkeep.
The central wing is dedicated to Mahalakshmi, the western wing to Saraswati and the eastern wing to Maharaja Agrasena. Behind the temple lies the Shakti Sarovar, a large pond that was filled with water from 41 rivers of India in 1988. At its north-west end a platform depicts the scene of Samudra manthan, the churning of the ocean. The complex sits beside the Agroha Mound and near Maharaja Agrasen Medical College.
