Why devotees come here
Amba Math, also spelled Amba Mutt, is a village near Somalapura in the Sindhanur taluk of Raichur district, Karnataka. The Sri Amba Devi Temple stands here, and the mutt is known as a centre for spiritual guidance and teachings. Lakhs of devotees visit from Karnataka and other states.
Legend says the saint Chidananda Avadhuta had a vision of Amba Devi as a child. Later, an Amba Devi idol is said to have emerged after Chidananda Yatis made his request. He wanted nothing for himself. The name appears as Amba Matha in some sources and Amba Mutt in others, and both refer to the same place.
The Ambadevi Temple is said to have been built in the 17th century. Over time it grew larger and became Amba Math, drawing many devotees. The festivals are the Devi Jatra in January and the Sharannavarathri festival during Dussehra.
The government page for the district says the mutt has no grand architecture. It reflects simplicity and tranquility instead. The mutt occupies a hilly and dense forest area.
