Why devotees come here
The Arulmigu Siruvachur MathuraKaliaman Temple is in Siruvachur, Perambalur taluk and district, Tamil Nadu. The district government says the temple has an antiquity of about 1000 years. The deity is the kuladeivam, or family deity, of Kanchi Mahaswami Shri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi.
Tradition says Chelliamman was the local deity of Siruvachur. Kannagi came here from Madurai after she invoked the blessings of Kali to slay a magician. She took the seat at Siruvachur as Mathura Kaliamman, and Chelliamman withdrew to the nearby Periyasami hills.
Its history is said to reach back about 1000 years. Tradition also says the deity was originally consecrated by Adi Sankara. Large numbers of devotees throng the temple on Mondays and Fridays to seek the deity's blessings. Devotees worship her as the powerful deity.
The Chithirai car festival, the big festival of the district, begins after Chithirai amavasai. It opens with the Poochorithal festival. Kappu kattuthal follows after the 8th day, and the big car festival after the 10th day.
