Why devotees come here
Baba Ramdev Temple stands in the southwest of Ramdevra village in Jaisalmer district. It honours Baba Ramdevji, the village founder revered as a saint. The shrine was built around his samadhi site.
Baba Ramdevji, a Tanwar Rajput, is revered as a saint and gave the village its name. Legend says he took jal samadhi, dying under the sand, at this very place. The temple's history is said to reach back more than 600 years.
Baba Ramdev Pir, son of Ajmal Singh Tanwar, established the Ramdevra settlement. In 1931, Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner constructed a temple around the samadhi.
The temple complex is decorated with intricately carved marble and sandstone. Inside the sanctum sits a seated idol of Baba Ramdevji, with his loyal camel shown at his side. The Ramdevra Fair, held from Bhado Sudi 2 to 10, is attended by a large number of devotees. Ramdev Jayanti, the saint's birth anniversary, is marked with processions and cultural performances.
