Why devotees come here
Banaso Temple stands in Jarangdih, Bermo block, Bokaro district, Jharkhand. The district government calls it a centre of faith. Legend says the temple began where a farmer's spade struck a stone, and devotees still seek the blessings of Maa Banaso here.
The district government describes Banaso Temple as a centre of faith and religious belief, and lists it as an important religious site on Jharkhand's tourist map. The temple has been a centre of faith in Jarangdih for decades. The district page places Jarangdih under Chas as a category D local tourist destination.
Legend says a farmer was cutting the field when his spade hit a stone. Milk and cotton flowed out of the stone at the impact. The small stone was then regarded as an incarnation of Maa Banaso, and the temple was built on that same spot.
Today the temple stands on the banks of the Konar river. Hills rise beside the railway line on one side. Navratri brings special pujas and festivities. Devotees also come throughout the year to seek the blessings of Maa Banaso.
