Why devotees come here
Bhadkeshwar Mahadev is one of Dwarka's most iconic Shiva temples, on the western edge of the town. It is dedicated to Shiva as Chandra-Mouliswar. The temple stands on a hillock jutting into the Arabian Sea.
Dwarka is known as the sacred city of Krishna, and Bhadkeshwar Mahadev is one of its most iconic Shiva temples. The temple is in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Gujarat, and the deity is Shiva as Chandra-Mouliswar. Legend says that over five thousand years ago, the deity revealed himself here in the form of a Shivalinga in the sea.
The temple is credited to Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya, who built it at the confluence of the Gomti and Ganga rivers and the Arabian Sea. It stands on a hillock jutting out into the Arabian Sea, at the western edge of Dwarka town.
Each year around June or July, the Arabian Sea rises and envelopes the temple entirely. Maha Shivaratri is the temple's most celebrated festival, and it brings the temple to life with celebrations and a grand fair around the premises. Dwarka is at its most incredible in winter, from November to February. The legendary Dwarkadhish Temple, Geeta Mandir and Rukmini Devi Temple are all nearby.
