Why devotees come here
Bhurakhiya Hanuman is a historic temple in Bhurakhiya village, Lathi taluka, Amreli district, Gujarat. Devotees call the deity Bhurakhiya Dada, and a fair is held here every year on the Chaitra full moon.
The legend says that Saint Damodardasji, a disciple of Raghuvirdasji, was told in a dream that Hanuman would appear at midnight on a Chaitra full moon. The place was a hillock of babul trees between Sabhad, now Damnagar, and Lathi. Devotees believe that on the night of the full moon in 1642 Vikram Samvat, the hillock levelled itself and Hanuman appeared there.
The temple is said to be about 400 years old. The name Bhurakhiya is said to mean that Hanuman protects the land, or Bhu, and its people. The temple began as a small shrine. Today it is a large complex, with a central shrine and lodging and boarding facilities around it.
Each year a fair is organised at the temple premises to mark the Chaitra full moon in March and April.
