Why devotees come here
Bhadwa Mata Temple stands at Bhadwa, east of Neemuch town in Madhya Pradesh. It is dedicated to Mahamaya Bhadwa Mata, a form of Devi, and is popularly called the Vaishno Devi of Malwa.
Devotees across the Malwa-Nimar region count this shrine among their most revered, and it is listed among the important temples in India that depict Shakti. Legend says Devi first came to a tribal man in a dream and showed him where her idol lay buried in the forest. The idol now sits on a silver throne inside a marble temple.
The temple is described as 800 years old. Nine Nabhdurga idols surround the main idol, among them Brahmi, Maheswari, Vaishnavi, Varahi and Chamunda. Inside the premises is a holy water pond, the Baawdi, popularly known as Aarogya Theerth.
The district administration manages the temple. Priests dress the idol in clothes and jewellery during Navratri, when massive fairs are organised. A fair is also held on the Hindu New Year (Gudi Padwa). Every year, the fairs draw large crowds.
