Why devotees come here
The Chhinnamasta temple at Rajrappa, in Ramgarh district, Jharkhand, is one of the most revered Shakti Peeths in eastern India. Chhinnamasta is worshipped as a natural rock covered with an eight-metal alloy. The temple stands on a hillock where the Damodar and Bhera rivers meet, near the Rajrappa falls.
The temple is one of the shrines of the 10 Mahavidyas, and it is one of the most revered Shakti Peeths in eastern India. Chhinnamasta is worshipped here as a natural rock, covered with a cover of eight-metal alloy. The legend tells of a self-decapitated deity. She holds her own severed head in one hand and a scimitar in another.
The ancient temple was destroyed, and later a new temple was built. The original idol of Chhinnamasta was placed in it. The art and architecture bear a close resemblance to the famous Kamakhya Temple. The complex also has other temples, for Shiva, Surya and Kali.
Near the temple, the Rajrappa falls and a natural hot water spring draw visitors. The spring is most popular in winter, when many come for a picnic.
