Why devotees come here
Ghati Subramanya is an ancient Hindu temple in Melinajuganhalli village, Bengaluru Rural district. Its prime deity, Karthikeya, is found together with Narasimha, which makes the temple unique. It is an important centre in South India for snake worship.
The Karthikeya idol has a seven-headed cobra and is believed to have emerged from the earth on its own. Legend says Subramanya performed penance here in the form of a snake. The area is also believed to be where he vanquished the demon Ghatikasura.
The temple has a history of more than 600 years. The Ghorpade rulers of Sandur, who ruled parts of Bellary, first developed the site. In the sanctum, the Karthikeya idol faces east and the Narasimha idol faces west. A huge mirror at the back of the sanctum lets devotees see both deities at the same time.
The temple is an important centre in South India for snake worship. It stands in Melinajuganhalli village, Doddaballapura Taluk, Bengaluru Rural District.
