Why devotees come here
Harihareshwar is a town in Raigad district on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. The Harihareshwar temple, a shrine of Shiva, houses an ancient Shiva lingam, and a smaller Kalbhairav temple stands beside it.
Local tradition holds that Shiva blessed this place, and the main temple is said to house an ancient Shiva lingam. Harihareshwar is a town of Raigad district on the Konkan coast, and the temple stands towards its north, with the beach in front of it.
The temple complex has two adjacent temples. The smaller Kalbhairav temple sits beside the main Harihareshwar temple, and the Shiva lingam is in the main one. A straight beach about 2.4 km long lies in front of the temple.
The Kalbhairav Jayanti Utsav, a festival on the birthday of the deity Kalbhairav, was started by Yashawant Balawant Nagle. He donated property to help manage the temple. Pilgrims also walk the Pradakshina, a route around the temple that runs along the sea shore. Harihareshwar is an evergreen place, and together with Shrivardhan and Diveagar beach it is a popular weekend destination from Pune and Mumbai.
