Why devotees come here
The Kalabhairaveshwara temple stands in Adichunchanagiri, a hill township in Nagamangala taluk, Mandya district, Karnataka. It sits on a rocky hill about 3,300 feet above sea level, in an ancient temple complex. The hill is also called Mahasamsthana Math.
The temple is listed among the Bhairava temples as Sri Kalabhairaveswara, at Sri Kshetra Adichunchanagiri in Mandya district. The hill is a sacred place in Nagamangala taluk, and the temple stands within its ancient complex.
The new Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira, in the same ancient temple complex, was built as a tribute to the spiritual lineage of the mutt. Its design is modelled on the Konark Sun temple, with architectural designs from the Hoysala, Chola, Chalukya and Ganga.
News On Air reported on 15 April 2026 that the Prime Minister was to visit the hill. He was to pray at the Kala Bhairava temple before inaugurating the new mandira. Jwala Peetha, also on the hill, is visited near the temple, and Shiva is believed to be in penance there.
