Why devotees come here
Khodaldham is a Hindu temple complex in Kagvad, Rajkot district, Gujarat. It is dedicated to Khodal, also known as Khodiyar, the patron deity of the Leuva Patel community. Its exterior carries about 650 statues carved by artisans from Odisha.
Khodal, also called Khodiyar, is the patron deity of the Leuva Patel community. The community dominates the politically crucial Saurashtra region. About twenty other deities are installed in the temple alongside the central deity.
The Shree Khodaldham Trust, an organisation of Leuva Patel members from Rajkot, built the complex. Work began in 2012 with the laying of the foundation stone, and the temple was inaugurated on 21 January 2017. It was built in three phases over 158 bigha of land.
The temple follows the Mahameru Prasad style of Maru-Gurjara architecture and stands about 159 ft 1 inch high. Its height is kept 10 feet lower than the Somnath temple, as a mark of respect for Somnath. About 650 statues on the outside were carved by artisans from Odisha, and the carvings include 72 scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
