Why devotees come here
Maa Rankini Temple stands beside the state highway at Jadugora in East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. It is dedicated to Maa Rankini, a form of Devi, and devotees come from Jamshedpur and nearby places. A legend says Devi appeared in a dream and asked for a temple on the spot.
The temple is dedicated to Maa Rankini, a form of Devi. The legend says a local tribal man once saw a tribal girl take the form of Devi to kill a demon. The girl then vanished into the woods. That night Devi appeared in a dream to a man named Dinbandhu Singh and told him to build a temple on that spot. The district tourism page calls the stone idol an incarnation of Kali, so sources differ on the deity.
People travelling through the dense forest in ancient times are believed to have worshipped here for their protection and welfare. Today large numbers of devotees come from nearby places, including Jamshedpur city. The temple stands by the state highway that links Jadugoda with Tiring.
The state government plans to promote Rankini temple as a prominent tourist spot of the district. An elevated corridor of about 900 metres was built beside the temple to ease traffic and keep the queue of devotees away from vehicles. It was thrown open in the last week of December.
