Why devotees come here
Mata Chakreshwari Temple stands in village Attewali on the Sirhind-Chandigarh road, in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab. It is dedicated to Mata Chakreshwari Devi. Its best-known story is a legend about a chariot that would not move.
The temple is believed to be about 1000 years old. The legend behind it begins with pilgrims from Rajasthan who were travelling in bullock carts to the ancient Jain temple at Kangra. Their caravan halted for the night on this spot.
According to the legend, the chariot carrying the idol of Mata Chakreshwari Devi would not move, however hard the pilgrims tried. A voice is said to have told them to stay there. They installed the idol at this place and built a temple.
Digging a few yards north of the site is said to have found water. That water source was made into a small well. Every year an annual function is organised at the temple, four days after Dushera.
