Why devotees come here
Mata Murti Temple stands in Mana, a village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, at about 3,200 metres. The shrine is devoted to Mata Murti, the mother of the sages Nara and Narayana. Mana lies about 3 km from Badrinath.
Legend says Mata Murti was a devout follower of Vishnu. It is believed that she prayed with unwavering faith and asked him to be born from her womb. Vishnu granted her wish by taking birth as twins, Nar and Narayan. Both are called sages, and the shrine is devoted to their mother.
The ancient shrine has long been a cornerstone of Hindu pilgrimage. For centuries, pilgrims have made it a sacred stop on their difficult journey to Badrinath Dham, and the temple has long been a sacred destination on that route.
Special festivals such as Navratri are celebrated here with great zeal and enthusiasm. A fair is held each year on the day of Shravan Dwadashi, in honour of Mata Murti, the mother of the sages.
