Navagraha Jain Temple is an important Digambara Jain pilgrimage centre in northern Karnataka, also known as Navagraha Teertha Kshetra. Varur lies along the Pune to Bengaluru highway, near Hubballi. The local Jain community built the temple there to honour the nine Navagrahas, the nine celestial bodies. The temple has nine separate idols, one for each planet.
The temple is principally known for its 61-foot statue of Parshvanatha, the 23rd Tirthankara, shown standing in the kayotsarga posture. The statue weighs about 185 tonnes and stands on a 48-foot pedestal, so the whole monument is about 109 feet (33 m) high.
Construction of the temple complex began in January 2005. A Mahamastakabhisheka, a grand anointing of the Parshvanatha statue, was held in January 2007. The temple is built of stone, and the carvings on its walls are neat and detailed.
