Why devotees come here
Osho Ashram stands in Gadarwara town, Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh, on the banks of the Shakkar River. It is the place where Osho came to meditate and practise austerity from the age of 14. Gadarwara is also his childhood town.
Gadarwara is a city and municipality in Narsinghpur district, set up in 1867. It is the childhood town of Rajnish Osho, also named Chandra Mohan Jain. The ashram lies on the banks of the Shakkar River, in the town itself, and its grounds are green on all sides and are described as a meditation space.
Osho came to this place to meditate and practise austerity from the age of 14. As a boy he played in the town's playground and swam in the river. His first steps in meditation began here, during his schooling years.
Ruins on the ghats are said to be those of a Jagdish or Shiv temple where Osho used to meditate. Gurra Ghat, a riverside ghat, lies next to the ashram itself.
