Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple is dedicated to Sri Mahaganapathy, the form of Ganesha who is the main deity here. The temple is situated at East Fort, in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala. The sculptures across the temple include 32 different forms of Ganesha.
The original idol was maintained by the Nair Brigade, first at Padmanabhapuram. When the Brigade moved to Thiruvananthapuram, it installed the idol there, and the present temple came into being. After the Travancore army merged with the Indian forces, the Indian Army took over the maintenance of the temple, and it still does.
The main idol is seated, with its right leg in a folded stance. Vinayaka Chathurthi, also called Ganesh Jayanthi, is one of the major festivals celebrated at the temple. Devotees make the main offering of breaking coconuts here, and Ganapathy Homam, appam and modakam are also performed.
