Why devotees come here
Radha Damodar Temple stands in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, where Krishna is worshipped as Damodar with his consort Radha. It is one of the main seven Goswami temples of Vrindavan. The samadhis of several Gaudiya saints lie inside its grounds.
Krishna is worshipped here as Damodar, with his consort Radha. Radha Vrindavanchandra, Radha Madhav, Gaur Nitai and Jagannath are also worshipped in the temple, along with Giriraj Shila. The temple is one of the main seven Goswami temples of Vrindavan, a town held sacred in the Vaishnava tradition. Samadhis of Rupa Goswami, Jiva Goswami and Krishnadasa Kaviraja are inside its premises. A Giriraj Shila with Krishna's footprints is kept here, and legend says Krishna himself gave it to Sanatana Goswami.
Jiva Goswami first established the temple in 1542 at Seva Kunj in Vrindavan. In 1670, when Aurangazeb invaded Vrindavan, the original murtis were moved to Jaipur for some time. They were brought back to Vrindavan in 1739. Srila Prabhupada stayed at this temple for six years before he went to the United States to preach about Krishna. Descendants of Krishna Dasa still serve the deities.
