Why devotees come here
Sri Ranganayaka Swamy Temple stands in Srirangapuram village, Pebbair, Wanaparthy district, Telangana. It was built in the 18th century as a replica of the Srirangam temple. Vishnu is worshipped here as Sri Ranganadha Swamy, in Vijayanagara-style architecture.
The temple was built in the 18th century by Raja Baheri Gopal Rao of the Wanaparthy Samasthanam. He was fond of the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple at Srirangam and wanted a similar one in his region. The presiding deity, Sri Ranganadha Swamy, was installed in the Saka year 1685, about 1763 AD. Pilgrims and tourists now come from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
The architecture follows the Vijayanagara style.
Legend says Krishnadevaraya, the Vijayanagara ruler, found the idol. In a dream, Vishnu told him the idol lay in his kingdom, and an eagle showed him the spot. The legend differs from the history, which credits the Wanaparthy raja with building the temple. Rathotsavam in March and Navaratri each bring more than 20,000 visitors a day.
