Sudama Temple is dedicated to Sudama, the legendary childhood friend of Krishna. The temple was built to commemorate the friendship between Krishna and his trusted friend Sudama. Porbandar was historically known as Sudamapuri, and it is believed to be the birthplace of Sudama.
Government tourism pages date the temple to 1902 to 1907, and it still stands as a significant site of Porbandar. A statue of Ram Devji Jethwa, the ruler of the Jethwa dynasty, stands inside the temple. He guided the temple's construction. The building is simple but imposing. It is visited by thousands of devotees, especially newly married Rajasthani Kshatriya couples who come to receive blessings from the presiding deity.
The temple is open on all sides. It is built in white marble, with carved pillars and an intricately sculpted shikhara, the tower above the shrine.
