Why devotees come here
Ved Vyas Temple stands in Vedvyas, one of the areas of Rourkela city in Odisha. It sits at the confluence of the Sankh and Koel rivers, where the Brahmani River begins. Its complex has shrines to Ved Vyasa, Shiva and other deities.
Legend says the sage Maharishi Ved Vyasa meditated on this spot and composed parts of the Mahabharata and the Vedas here. Mythology also places the start of the Brahmani River at the spot where Sage Parashara fell in love with a fisherman's daughter, Satyavati. She later gave birth to Ved Vyasa, who compiled the Mahabharata.
The temple stands in Vedvyas, one of the areas of Rourkela city in Odisha. Rourkela lies about 328 km west of Bhubaneswar, the state capital. A 16 km Ring Road connects eighteen sectors of the city, and Vedvyas is one of the areas it reaches.
The Brahmani River is formed by the South Koel and Sankh rivers near Rourkela, an industrial town. The complex houses shrines to Ved Vyasa, Shiva and other deities, so visitors can see more than one place of worship in a single visit.
