Why devotees come here
Yadagirigutta Temple stands on a hillock in Yadagirigutta town, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana. It is dedicated to Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, and is often described as Telangana's own Tirupati. Its sanctum sits in a cave under a huge rock.
The Skanda Purana tells that Yada, son of the sage Rishyasringa, performed penance here to Narasimha. In the legend, Narasimha appeared in five forms, and the main cave now holds all five in stone.
The sanctum, called the garbhagriha, is in a cave under a huge rock that covers half the temple. The whole temple is built of stone, following the Agama Shastra. It has seven gopurams with wooden roofs. The pillars of the 12 Alvars, the poet-saints of Sri Vaishnavism, are a notable feature of the main temple.
Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, passed a grant to the temple during his rule. Work to renew the temple started in 2016, and the Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA) finished it in March 2022.
