Birla Mandir is a Hindu temple where Lakshmi and Vishnu, as Narayan, are worshipped, and images of other Hindu gods are placed inside. Tradition says a Maharaja sold the land to the Birla family for one rupee. The temple stands near Moti Dungari hill in Tilak Nagar.
Construction began in 1977 under the direction of Ramanauj Das and Ghanshyam Birla. The B.M. Birla Foundation built the temple entirely of white marble, and it opened on 22 February 1988. The Birla family then gifted it to the people of Jaipur, and it is a comparatively modern temple among the city's shrines.
The temple stands on an elevated platform and dominates the skyline of south Jaipur. Its main parts are the sanctum, the tower, the main hall and the entrance. The three towers refer to the three main faiths of India. Stained glass windows show traditional Hindu stories, and the outer walls carry figures such as Christ, Buddha, Confucius and Socrates.
