Why devotees come here
Chyavan Rishi Temple stands on Dhosi Hill, which lies on the border of Haryana and Rajasthan near Narnaul. Sage Chyavan and his father Bhrigu had their ashrams on this hill. The shrine is one of several on the crater at the summit.
Dhosi Hill is an important tourist site in Mahendragarh district. Chyavana Rishi and his father Bhrigu Rishi had their ashrams on the hill. Another tradition places Chyavana's hermitage here, in the Vedic state of Brahmavarta, near Narnaul. Narnaul is the headquarters of Mahendragarh district, and the hill lies in its district.
In the 1890s the Bhargava community built a fort on the crater to replace the old temple. The fort was modeled on the Chyavana temple, and the garbhagriha, the inner sanctum of that temple, has Shekhawati paintings on its walls.
The basement of the Chyavana temple serves as a dharamshala, a resting place for pilgrims. On the crater you will also find a Shiva temple, a Devi shrine on the hilltop and a Rama temple beside the Royal Guest House.
