Why devotees come here
Dudhadhari Math, also spelled Doodhadhari, is a monastery and temple on the banks of the Maharajbandh river in Raipur. It is dedicated to Rama, and its facade is carved with scenes from his life. Hindu devotees come here to pray.
The monastery and temple hold major religious significance for Hindu devotees. According to legend, the temple takes its name from Mahant Balabhadra Das, a Mahant of the monastery who ate only the milk that was first offered to the gods. He ate nothing else for his whole life.
King Jaitsingh built the monastery in the 17th century. The facade has elaborate carvings, intricate sculptures and ornate motifs. Each one depicts an episode from the life of Rama. The monastery is a popular attraction of the region, and the riverside site draws travellers seeking solace.
The main shrine is dedicated to Rama, the deity of the temple, and the temple complex also has shrines to Hanuman, Shiva and Devi Durga. The complex stands on the tranquil banks of the Maharajbandh river in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Visitors come to seek blessings, offer prayers and spend time in quiet spiritual contemplation.
