Gadpehra is also called old Sagar. It was the capital of the Dangi kingdom, and the site still has some historical remains. Accounts say the fort was founded after seven horses were sacrificed, and that it once held 360 villages. Sources differ on the builder. One credits Sangram Shah Singh and the other Raja Gorakhshah Singh Dangi. An inscription of 1747 of Maharajkumar Singh is still present at the site.
The fort is built on a low range of hills. A steep road leads up to a bastion, a rough gateway and a white washed temple on a platform. The Madhya Pradesh Archaeology Department has preserved the remains. Among them is the Shish Mahal, the summer residence of the Dangi ruler, with beautifully carved walls, doors and rooms.
In the neighbourhood there is a tomb that is treated as an object of worship.
