Why devotees come here
Gudem Gutta Satyanaraya Swami Temple stands on a hill in Gudem village, Dandepalle, Mancherial district, in northern Telangana. It is dedicated to Vishnu as Shree Satyanarayana Swamy, and it is one of the most famous temples in Telangana. The hill lies on the banks of the holy Godavari river.
The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, worshipped here as Shree Satyanarayana Swamy. Legend says a devotee dreamed of the deity, and the idols were then found on Ratnapu Chevula hill. The hill was once called Ratnadri hill. The idols were anointed with the waters of the holy Godavari river. Locals say the temple was built on the tenth day of the bright half of the month of Magha. It is also called Telangana's Annavaram, after the famous Satyanarayana temple in Andhra Pradesh.
Locals date the founding of the temple to 1964. That year, Shree Satyanarayana Swamy is said to have appeared in the dream of Govardhana Perumandla Swamy of Gudem village. The district's history page calls the temple a noted pilgrim centre. Mancherial district, where the temple stands, is crossed by the Godavari and Pranahita rivers.
