Why devotees come here
Lakshmi Narasimha Temple stands in Dharmapuri, a town on the Godavari in Jagtial district, Telangana. The temple is the abode of Narasimha Swamy, and it is counted as the 9th Nava Narasimha temple.
The temple is the abode of Narasimha Swamy, the fourth avatar of Vishnu, and his consort Devi Lakshmi. Dharmapuri, where it stands, is a municipality and the mandal headquarters of Dharmapuri mandal in Jagtial district. The town lies on the bank of the Godavari river.
The temple was built during the reign of the Chalukyas, and the Kakatiyas later expanded it. It houses three forms of Narasimha. The first is in his natural seated posture, and the other two are the angry Ugra form and a Saumya form.
At Dharmapuri the Godavari flows north to south, while it flows west to east elsewhere. That is why the river is called Dakshina Vahini, the south-flowing river. The town sits on the Kazipet to Balharshah section of the South Central Railway, and Jagtial district has rail connectivity from Jagtial to Peddapalli via Karimnagar.
